Hi everyone It's been a while since I had a case like this, and wondered if anyone reading this could offer any input based on experience. I have an elderly client who owned a residential property which they disposed of in circa October 2022. On disposal an amount of CGT was due. The CGT position for (capital) expenses (but not for acquisitions/disposals - when MV base cost applies to a donee) is analogous (revenue costs are not deductible for CGT in any event). So there must be a disposal here for the recipient to get MV base cost (on the whole asset presumably and not just the enhanced bit).

CGT Rates: The rate of CGT depends on your total taxable income and gains. For the 2023/24 tax year, the rates are 10% for basic rate taxpayers and 20% for higher and additional rate taxpayers.
